PURPOSE: To obtain a portable spectrophotometer which can easily be constituted as a handheld unit.
CONSTITUTION: The portable spectrophotometer comprises a small diameter optical sphere (integrating sphere) 101, photodetectors 130, 136, a signal processor 140 and a display 142. The integrating sphere is coated, on the inside thereof, with a color-absorbing material having high reflectance, and the light from an incandescent bulb 103 is scattered inside the sphere before arriving at a target sample. The sphere is provided with a first aperture 120 at a position where the spectral component of a scattering source light is absorbed. A second aperture 125 is provided at an angular position corresponding to the target sample, in order to measure a light from which regular reflection has been removed, and the regular reflection components absorbed by the first aperture is removed. A value pertaining to the regular reflection components is derived, by combining the lights containing and not containing the regular reflection with respect to one wavelength.
