PURPOSE: To decrease the sliding noises of the composite type magnetic head to be used for a magnetic recorder, such as video tape recorder, to improve the wear resistance thereof and to decrease the variations in the magnetic gap length thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Cores 1 made of single crystal ferrites are exposed on a sliding surface with a magnetic tape. From the butt surfaces of a magnetic gap 13 to about the depth of a track width regulating groove 9 and a groove 17 for winding are formed of the cores 1 made of the single crystal ferrites. The other parts are formed of cores 2 made of polycrystalline ferrites. The wear resistance is improved by this constitution and a level difference is not generated on the butt surfaces of the magnetic gap 13 and, therefore, the variations in the magnetic gap length are decreased. Since the greater part of magnetic circuits are constituted of the polycrystalline ferrites, the sliding noises are decreased.
