PURPOSE: To provide an outrigger type crane useful for making rod replacement work in a rod mill safe and easy.

CONSTITUTION: This crane is provided with a frame 2 in which a horizontal rail 1 is fixed to a support frame 11; a mobile rail 3 suspended from the horizontal rail 1 to be able to travel and project; a drive device 4 for traveling of the mobile rail 3, interposed between the mobile rail 3 and the horizontal rail 1; a retaining member 5 arranged on a tip side of the mobile rail 3 and detachably retaining an object to be carried; a hoisting device 6 attached to a base end side of the mobile rail 3; and a flexible traction body 7 for interlockingly connecting the hoisting device 6 to the retaining member 5 so as to lift the retaining member 5 by means of the hoisting device 6.
