PURPOSE: To display a running possible range on a map from the power consumption quantity of a battery by considering vehicle climbing ability and calculating the running possible range based on landshape information on the road map, which is stored in a storage medium, and the residual amount of the battery.
CONSTITUTION: Respective detecting signals are read, a prescribed arithmetic processing is executed and the running possible range is obtained by following an input command from a storage information reproducer 4 which selectively reads map information and corresponding landshape information from the map information storage medium (CD-ROM) 3 where road map information and the landshape information of respective roads are stored, a battery residual amount detecting device 5 which detects the residual battery capacity of an electric automobile and an operating device 6. Then, the present position and the running possible range of a self-vehicle viewed from the position are displayed on the road map projected on the screen of a display device 7. When the command is given from the operating device 6, a signal processor 8 obtains the running possible distance of the vehicle from battery power consumption quantity corresponding the slope of the respective roads based on detected residual battery capacity.
