PURPOSE: To realize EGR(exhaust gas recirculation) temperature control in compliance with load with high responsiveness without using a special cooling means.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust gas recirculation system for an engine is provided with a turbochargers 31, 32 for low speed and high speed, a first EGR passage 44 and a second EGR passage 46. The first EGR passage 44 is connected to the upper reaches side of an exhaust shutoff valve 34 in an exhaust passage 16, and the second EGR passage 46 is connected to a position between the exhaust shutoff valve 34 and the high speed turbocharger 32 in the exhaust passage 16. The ratio of EGR flow through the second EGR passage 46 to EGR flow through the first EGR passage 44 is enlarged as engine load becomes higher.
