Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a new ester amine suitable as a base for softener having improved bio-degradability. CONSTITUTION:The ester amine of formula I (R1 is 1-6C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; R2 is 8-36C straight-chain or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl; R3 is H, OH, 1-6C alkyl or hydroxyalkyl; R4 is 7-35C straight-chain or branched chain alkyl or alkenyl; (n) is integer of 0-17; (m) is integer of 0-10), e.g. N-(2- octadecanoyloxyethyl)-N-methyloctadecylamine. The compound can be produced by reacting a secondary amine of formula II with an epoxy compound or a halo-alcohol of formula III or formula IV (R3' is R3 excluding OH; X is halogen) and esterifying the obtained amino alcohol of formula V with a fatty acid or fatty acid ester of formula R4COOR (R is H or 1-3C alkyl).
