Abstract:
PURPOSE:To evaluate the quality grade of printed status of a sheet of printed matter by a method wherein the number of picture elements whose level differences exceed an allowable set value is counted, and the quality grade of printed status is classified into ranks based on the counted number. CONSTITUTION:Picture elements on sheets of printed matter 5 are detected for NG status by a comparison circuit 35 sheet by sheet, and a NG counter 37 counts the number of picture elements which are in NG status. A main CPU 38 controls devices in a judgment unit 21 and also performs an evaluation process in which the quality grade of printed status of the printed matter is classified into ranks according to the counted results of the NG counter 37. For example, ranks are set as follows: Rank A; NG picture elements < 'a', rank B; 'a' <= NG picture elements < 'b', and rank C; NG picture elements >='b'. Those ranks A-C can correspond to small spoilage, medium spoilage and large spoilage, and the judged results are displayed on a color monitor 28 and printed out by a printer 32.
