PURPOSE: To supply a new reactive substance to the surface of an electrode at each time of measurement by filling the interior of an insulating outer layer with carbon paste consisting of the reactive substance, a carbon fine material and a carrier and renewing a used electrode part.
CONSTITUTION: A carbon sensor electrode is constituted by filling the interior of an insulating outer layer 1 with carbon paste 4 consisting of a reactive substance, a carbon fine material and a carrier to form a carbon electrode and a sensor part is used in an upwardly turned state or a suspended state. As the reactive substance, org. matter, a complex ion, inorg. acid, alkali salt, soluble gas or a mixture of them is used. The carrier such as vaseline or agar, fine carbon particles and staple carbon fibers are mixed so as to prevent a reaction product from flowing out to enter a bulk soln. and kneaded with water or an org. solvent to prepare the carbon paste 4 and the interior of the outer layer 1 is filled with the carbon paste 4. With respect to the once used electrode, the paste 4 is extruded and removed from the leading end part of the electrode to supply a new electrode surface to obtain a result good in reproducibility. A connection port 5 is provided to the base end of the electrode and a piston 6 and a pump 7 are connected to the connection port 5 to supply the new carbon paste.
