PURPOSE: To recover and reutilize a carbonaceous substance by-produced in the production of a synthesis gas by the partial oxidation of heavy oil and to rationalize the producing stage by carrying out the partial oxidation of asphalt separated by deasphalting instead of the direct oxidation of the heavy oil.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy oil 11 is deasphalted with a solvent deasphalting apparatus 12, and produced asphalt 23 is heated with a heating furnace 24 and fed to a separator 25 and a stripper 28 to separate and recover the solvent. The asphalt is fed to a gasifying furnace 32, where it is partially oxidized with oxygen 33 and steam 34 to produce a synthesis gas 35 consisting essentially of CO and H2, and the gas 35 is fed to a carbon scrubber 36 to remove a carbonaceous substance in the gas by scrubbing. An aqueous slurry 39 contg. the carbonaceous substance is returned to the furnace 32, used to cool the synthesis gas, fed to a mixer 41, and mixed with naphtha 42 to shift the carbonaceous substance into the naphtha. After removing the water with a decanter 44, the naphtha is mixed with heavy oil 47 and fed to a light hydrocarbon oil stripper 48, and a mixture of the carbonaceous substance with the heavy oil is fed to the apparatus 12.
