PURPOSE: To obtain the captioned polymers which exert favorable influences on enterohepatic circulation, reduce cholesterol concentration in blood, exhibit superior remedial effects and are useful for the prevention of arteriosclerosis by polymerizing respectively specified monomers such as monomeric bile acid or the like under a specified condition.
CONSTITUTION: The intended polymers and oligomers are obtained by polymerizing plural compounds of formula I (G is bile acid group or bile acid derivatives; X is bridging group; A is polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated group) or by copolymerizing one or more compounds of formula I with a compound of formula II [R9 is H or methyl; R10 is -CO-C-R11 or -CONR12R13 (R11 is H, 1-10C alkyl or the like; R12 and R13 are each 1-10C alkyl) or the like] and/or N- vinylpyrrolidone (derivatives) and/or 2-6C ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids (anhydrides) and/or 2-6C ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid esters using one or more radical initiators at <250°C.
