The invention relates to a new process for preparing unsaturated geminal dihalogen compounds. More particularly, the invention concerns a process for preparing compounds of the formula (I) wherein X is halogen, R1 is a straight or branched chained alkenyl group having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, by clearing the corresponding 1-substituted 2,2,2-trihaloethylesters.
