PURPOSE: To provide a safe cathode-ray tube having sufficient withstand voltage strength to an atmospheric pressure load applied to a vacuum envelope.
CONSTITUTION: A cathode-ray tube has a vacuum envelope having an almost flat first plate 5, a side wall 2 extending substantially vertically by being joined to the peripheral part of this first plate and an almost flat second plate 1 opposed in parallel to the first plate 5 by being joined to this side wall 2, and a plurality of support bodies 4 to support these first and the second plates 1 and 5 are arranged between the first and the second plates. When the side wall 2, the second or the first plate 1 or 5 and the support bodies 4 are joined together, these are joined together while applying a load to the vicinity of a part of the first or the second plate 1 or 5 corresponding to the support bodies 4 situated on the side wall 2 side.
