PURPOSE: To improve a quick charge performance by enhancing the gas absorption performance of a hydrogen storage electrode and restraining a rise in battery internal pressure at a charging process.
CONSTITUTION: Regarding a hydrogen storage electrode formed out of a hydrogen storage alloy, a binder and a substrate, constitution is so made that the amount of a binder existing on the surface of the electrode is less than a binder amount existing within the electrode, or no binder exists on the surface of the electrode. This type of a structure can be devised at the time of charging the substrate with the hydrogen storage alloy, but a better result can be obtained by removing the binder from the surface of the electrode at a post- process such as polishing or washing.
