Abstract:
PURPOSE:To impart durability to this horn and to allow the execution of a safe and efficient operation by subjecting the entire part of the horn consisting of a titanium alloy or near the front end thereof to a heat treatment and further, forming a thin film of titanium nitride on the horn surface. CONSTITUTION:The titanium alloy which is resistant to corrosion and is highly tough is used for the material of the horn 1. The heat treatment is applied to about 30mm length from the front end of the working part 3 of the horn and the conditions thereof are 8 to 24 hours of annealing after 2 to 4 hours of hardening at 600 to 900 deg.C. The titanium nitride is formed to a 30mm range from the front end of the working part 3 of the horn by using an ion plating method or vacuum vapor deposition method of executing coating at a low temp. The improvement in durability is made if the front end is ion-coated with the titanium nitride after the heat treatment in such a manner. The generation of the erosion in the breaking, cutting, chipping, and separating of the biotissue or the hard tissue of bones, etc., by using the horn is prevented over a long period of time and the improvement in wear resistance is made. The safe operation is thus assured.
