Abstract:

NEW MATERIAL:An N-methylchloroacetanilide derivative shown by the formulaI(R is H or methyl).

USE: A herbicide. Showing a controlling effect on Monochoria vaginalis Presl, a weed in paddy fields by its small application amount, having no phytotoxicity to useful crops (especially to paddy-rice plant).

PROCESS: For example, a compound shown by the formula II is reacted with a base such as an alkali hydroxide, alkali carbonate, etc. as a dehydrochlorinating agent in a solvent such as acetone, benzene, etc. at -10W200°C for 1W3hr, to give a compound shown by the formulaIin high yield.
