Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a resin composition useful for environmental protection, which has both photodegradability and biodegradability and an auto-oxidative function by using inexpensive materials contg. a resin, starch and a peroxide compd. in specific proportions.

CONSTITUTION: An objective resin composition is efficiently obtained from inexpensive materials by mixing and kneading 99-25 wt.% resin (example: polystyrene resin), 1-75 wt.% starch and 0.1-10 PHR peroxide compd. expressed by the formula (R is an aliphat. hydrocarbon or arom. hydrocarbon; Y is a carboxyl group or an aldehyde group to react with hydroxyl groups on the surface of the starch). The added peroxide compd. generates useful functional groups for biodegradation and oxidizes the polymer component through a reaction together with oxygen in the air during high temperature kneading, and further imparts a photodegradability by generating keto groups.
