Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a shock absorbing belt capable of improving the initial restraint for crew by a seat belt device for the protective restraint for the crew when, e.g. a motor vehicle is crashed and of mitigating the impact in the crash by absorbing impact energy.

CONSTITUTION: The objective belt 11 is so designed as to be incorporated with an additional constituent material 15 composed of plural high-strength, and low-elongation yarns along the longer direction of warps 13 as the basic constituent material 1 for the belt 11. This additional constituent material 15 is firmly held between several pairs of wefts 14, 14. This material 15 consists of carbon fibers or aramid fibers ≥20g/de in dry tenacity, ≤4% in elongation at break and ≤1100 denier in base yarn fineness. The additional constituent material 15 is randomly ruptured along its longer direction at the moment when an impact load is applied thereon.
