PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a reagent for analysis, etc. in high yield in high selectivity inexpensively, by bringing an aliphatic alcohol into contact with CO and O2 under pressure in the presence of a platinum group metal salt, a copper or iron salt, a tertiary amine, etc. and nitrobenzene, etc.
CONSTITUTION: An aliphatic alcohol (e.g., ethanol, etc.) is brought into contact with CO and O2 under pressure in the presence of (A) a platinum group metal salt (e.g., palladium chloride, etc.), (B) a copper or iron salt (e.g., cupric chloride, etc.), (C) one or more compounds of a tertiary amine (e.g., triethylamine, etc.), glycine, thiourea, dimethylformamide, triphenyl-phosphine, etc. and (D) nitrobenzene or a carbonic acid diester in an autoclave, and they are reacted to give the desired compound.
