Abstract:
PURPOSE:To carry out maintenance work for arbitrary one of ion engines even during testing by removably coupling a plurality of sub-vacuum containers to a main vacuum container by way of shut-off valves, respectively. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of sub-vacuum containers 5 are removably coupled to a main vacuum container 2 by way of shut-off valves such as gate valves or the like having a structure in which a shut-off opening may be sufficiently formed. Each of sub-vacuum containers 5 is constructed such that vacuum evacuation for the inside thereof can be made independently from each other. That is, an auxiliary vacuum container evacuation device 19 composed of a turbopump and a holding pump 18 is communicated with the sub-vacuum containers 5 by way of the shut-off valves, respectively. Accordingly, an arbitrary one of the vacuum containers 5 may be evacuated or normally pressurized by opening and closing the associated shut-off valve 20. With this arrangement, it is possible to carry out checking and maintenance work for an arbitrary one of engines, irrespective of the other engines on testing.
