PURPOSE: To measure dimensions and the shape of a material to be measured without contacting, by moving an industrial television camera on a measuring plane, which is at a known specified angle to the face to be measured of this material, while picking up the image of the region including the circumferential line of this face to be measured in the direction vertical to this face to be measured by the industrial television camera.
CONSTITUTION: In case of measurement for an outside circumferential line 8 on a face 7 to be measured which coincides with the end face of a hollow cylindrical forged material 5 and is vertical to an axis 6, an industrial television camera 10 is moved on a virtual measuring plane 9 which is at a known specified angle to the face 7. In measurement, the camera 10 is moved on the plane 9 along the line 8 so that an optical axis 11 of the camera 10 is vertical to the face 7 and intersects the line 8, and a projection line 8A of the line 8 onto the plane 9 is obtained as the movement course. This line 8A is corrected on a basis of an angle 13 between the face 7 and the plane 9, namely, between a perpendicular 12 of the plane 9 and the optical axis 11, thus obtaining dimensions and the shape of the outside circumferential line 8.
