PURPOSE: To obtain the titled, carboxyl group-containing emulsion excellent in a variety of stabilities and suitable as a mold release or the like, by emulsion- polymerizing a diorgano-polysiloxane and a carboxyl group-containing diorganosiloxane.
CONSTITUTION: A cyclic or linear diorganopolysiloxane (A) (e.g., cyclic dimethylsiloxane) and an organodialkoxysilane or diorganopolysiloxane (B) having a unit of formula I (wherein R is a monovalent hydrocarbon, R' is a bivalent hydrocarbon, R2 is H, a monovalent hydrocarbon or a monovalent cation), e.g., a compound of formula II, are emulsion-polymerized in the presence of a sulfonic acid type surfactant (e.g., dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid) and water. Thus, an emulsion of a diorganopolysiloxane having a polymerization degree higher than any of those of components A and B and a content of the unit of formula I lower than that of component B is obtained.
