PURPOSE: To obtain the subject compound extremely excellent from the viewpoints of used amounts of raw materials, economical efficiency of a solvent and yield of a product in an industrial scale by reacting a specific isocyanate with sodium azide in nearly equimolar ratio in a polar solvent.
CONSTITUTION: This compound of the formula [R is an alkyl, a haloalkyl, a cycloalkyl, a (substituted)phenyl or an aralkyl] is obtained by reacting (A) a isocyanate of the formula RNCO with (B) sodium azide in nearly equimolar ratio in (C) a polar solvent in the presence of (D) aluminum chloride. Furthermore, as the component C, N,N-dimethylformamide, N,N-dimethylacetamide, dimethylsulfoxide, solfolane, N-methylpyrrolidone or 1,3-dimethylimidazolinone is preferably used and the component D is preferably used in an amount of about 0.01-0.1mol based on 1mol of the component A.
