PURPOSE: To provide a dentifrice composition having high cleaning capability, good taste and excellent storage stability, by using an abrasion base comprising a synthetic amorphous silicate bonded with a specific amount of zirconium.
CONSTITUTION: A synthetic amorphous zirconium silicate having bonded zirconium of 0.1W10wt%, preferably 0.2W2% in terms of Zr2O based on SiO2, and preferably having a refractive index of 1.40W1.47, a specific surface area of ≤800 m2/g, a specific gravity of 1.9W2.3 and a liquid absorption of 0.4W2.0ml/g, is used as an abrasion base, and is compounded to a dentifrice vehicle composed mainly of water, a thickener and perfumery in an amount of 1W50%, especially 5W30% of the whole composition. The silicate has low temperature coefficient of the refractive index, and accordingly, a transparent dentifrice storable for a long period or in a cold or hot place without causing the refractive index difference between the abrasion base and the dentifrice vehicle and having a stable transparency can be produced by using the silicate as the abrasion base of a transparent dentifrice.
