Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve accuracy and durability by permitting a light emitting diode chip to possess a two-dimensional light emitting plane and to project parallel luminous flux when light from the light emitting plane is projected from a projecting plane through the incidence plane of a plastic lens, permitting the lens to have the prescribed limiting viscosity and composing the lens by the specific cyclic olefin random copolymer or resin whose major ingredient is the hydrogen additive of such copolymer. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting diode is so designed that parallel luminous flux emitted by a light emitting diode chip 1 is projected from a projecting surface 6b through an incidence surface 6a. Namely, a lens 6 possessing the incidence surface 6a and the projecting surface 6b is formed by permitting the incidence surface 6a to be a concave spherical surface which is the thinnest at the center point of the lens outer circumference looking from the incidence side and by permitting the projecting surface 6b to be a convex paraboloid of revolution, which is the thickest at the center point of the lens outer circumference looking from the projecting side. The lens 6 has a limiting viscosity (eta) of 0.05-10dl/g, which is measured in decalin at 135 deg.C and the lens is made of cyclic olefin random copolymer composed of the copolymer of the cyclic olefin random copolymer and ethylene shown by the expression or resin whose major ingredient is the hydrogen additive of such copolymer. R<1>-R<10> are composed of hydrogen atoms, halogen atoms and hydrocarbon radicals.
