PURPOSE: To attain the partial rewriting at all times with no erroneous recording by detecting the record mode set when a track is formed out of the part immediately before a reproduction system by said reproduction system when the partial rewriting record is carried out and performing the rewriting record in the same record mode.
CONSTITUTION: When the partial rewriting is carried out, a command signal U is trasmitted from n action control part 3. In this case, a reproduction mode is set before transmission of the signal U. It is defined that a record mode is set at a recorded part immediately before the partially rewriting part of a magnetic tape and when an oblique track is formed for the discrimination signal R sent from an FM sound signal existence discriminating circuit 37. Such signal R is held by a preholding circuit 63. Then recording reproducing switches 5W7 are switched when the signal U and the control signal P' are transmitted from the part 3. Thus the partial rewriting is performed for the color video signal which is supplied to an input terminal 2 in accordance with the signal R held at the circuit 63.
