Abstract:
NEW MATERIAL:The 4-(4-cyanophenoxy)-α-phenoxypropionic acid derivative of formula(R1 is H or halogen; R2 is methyl or ethyl; n is 1 or 2).
EXAMPLE: 4-(4-Cyanophenoxy)-α-phenoxy-propionic acid 2-methylthioethyl ester.
USE: Selective herbicide exhibiting excellent activity against cockspur-grass which is a harmful weed in paddy rice field. It has long activity and is effective to the directly sowed paddy rice field and transplanted paddy rice field.
PROCESS: The compound of formula (n=1) can be prepared by reacting the corresponding 4-(2-substituted-4-cyanophenoxy)-α-phenoxy-propionic acid with dimethyl sulfoxide in the presence of sodium bicarbonate and t-butyl bromide.
