PURPOSE: To secure discharge light emitting display for a plasma display device by detecting the number of pixel data of high light emitting luminance levels and increasing these levels by a prescribed degree if the detected data number is larger than the prescribed value.
CONSTITUTION: A frame memory 8 successively fetches the pixel data from a luminance level correction circuit 40 by the write signal received from a memory control circuit 7. The memory 8 also reads out in sequence its stored pixel data by the read signal of the circuit 7 and supplies these data to an output processing circuit 9. Thus the total number of pixel data having the light emitting luminance higher than a prescribed level is calculated for each row. Then the correction data is added to each pixel data corresponding to such a row that has the total number of pixel data larger than the prescribed value so that the correction pixel data are obtained to raise the light emitting luminance level of the relevant row. Then the discharge light emitting display is carried out based on the correction pixel data. As a result, the satisfactory light emitting display is secured for a plasma display panel with no reduction of the light emitting luminance level and despite a large number of pixels that perform the white peak display.
