Title:
PRODUCTION OF PROPYLENE/STYRENE COPOLYMER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6026011
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce the titled homogeneous copolymer in good yields without a demineralization step, by slurry-copolymerizing propylene with styrene by using a specified Ziegler-Natta catalyst.

CONSTITUTION: Styrene is copolymerized with propylene at 40W90°C in an inert hydrocarbon solvent (styrene/propylene charge molar ratio of about 0.006W1) by using a catalyst comprising (A) a solid component containing titanium, magnesium, a halogen, and an electron-donating compound, obtained by contacting, by grinding, a titanium compound (e.g., titanium tetrachloride) with a magnesium compound (e.g., magnesium dimethoxide), and an electron-donating compound (e.g., methyl benzoate) in, for example, a ball mill, (B) an organometallic compound (e.g., a triethylaluminum/diethylaluminum chloride mixture), and (C) an electron-donating compound.
