PURPOSE: To obtain the subject composition capable of monitoring the completeness of the cure and identifying the origin and the production lot of the elastomer by incorporating an unstable fluorescent compound, which decomposes or volatilizes when it is heated to a specific temp. under atmospheric pressure, into a crosslinkable elastomer.
CONSTITUTION: This composition comprises (A) a crosslinkable elastomer and (B) 0.025-3 parts, per 100 parts of the elastomer polymer, of an unstable fluorescent compound which is stable under temp., pressure and time conditions necessary to form the elastomer polymer, however, decomposes or volatilizes from the composition when it is heated at a temp. higher than 170°C and atmospheric pressure for more than 1 hr. Impregnation of the unstable fluorescent compound into the composition makes it possible to monitor the completeness of the cure or to identify the origin and the production lot of the elastomer.
