PURPOSE: To avoid such accident as firing or smoking by bringing a DC lower supply into a second mode, i.e., waiting state, when an image recorder detects an abnormality thereby blocking spread of abnormal state.

CONSTITUTION: The mode (output capacity) of a DC power supply 47 is changed according to the operating state or waiting state of an image recorder. A first mode exhibiting maximum output capacity is brought about for the recording operation state and an automatic transition is made to a second mode ensuring the minimum necessary output capacity for the waiting state. When a recording paper is jammed or an abnormality is detected in a control load under the operating state of image recorder, the mode of the DC power supply 47 can switched to second mode in order to block spread of the abnormal state. Even if short circuit of cable, abnormality in control load, etc., occurs under waiting state of image recorder, such accident as firing or smoking can be avoided because the output capacity of DC power supply is low.
