PURPOSE: To reduce a memory capacity remarkably and to smooth an edge part of a picture while keeping high picture quality by conducting resolution conversion increasing resolution of picture data.
CONSTITUTION: RGB multi-value bit data outputted from a data companding processing section 2204 are sent to a picture processing section A (2101) or a picture processing section B (2102). A color conversion processing section 205 of the picture processing section A masking processing and an undercolor reduction(UCR) processing in matching with a color reproduction characteristic of an engine and converts received RGB bit data of 300dpi into YMCK multi- value bit data. Furthermore, the picture processing section B provides an output of picture data whose resolution is converted into 600dpi by three function blocks of a black letter detection circuit 1251, a color signal conversion circuit 1252 and a smoothing processing circuit 1253. Then an engine section 2207 makes pulse width modulation record the picture.
