PURPOSE: To automatically switch an input character mode at a previously set switching position without operating any specified key for selecting the input character mode.

CONSTITUTION: The input character mode is automatically switched without operating any specified key for designating which kind of characters is recognized for an inputted key. A switching position setting part 8 sets a desired cursor position to be switched in a display picture. An input character mode setting part 9 sets the desired input character mode. A comparison part 10 compares the cursor position under operating with the content of the switching position setting part 8. When they are coincident as a result, the input character mode can be automatically switched according to the content of the input character mode setting part 9.
