PURPOSE: To provide inorg. hollow fine particles containing a liquid crystal at practical uses of a liquid crystal material in a drop state so that formation or handling of drops is made easy, and to provide a liquid crystal display device using these particles.

CONSTITUTION: The inorg. hollow fine particle 1 contains a nematic liquid crystal or mixture of nematic liquid crystal and cholesteric liquid crystal, or cholesteric liquid crystal in the hollow part 3. A dichroic dye stuff may be dissolved in the liquid crystal. The liquid crystal display device consists of a polymer material 10 with dispersion of inorg. hollow fine particles 1 containing a liquid crystal, two supporting substrates 8, 9 having electrodes 6, 7, respectively. The polymer material 10 is a hydrophilic material, or the polymer material 10 consists of a photosetting resin or thermosetting resin.
