Abstract:
Prepn. of 4-hydroxyphenyl benzoate derivs. of formula (I) comprises reacting 1,4-bis-(benzoyl)hydroquinone derivs. of formula (II) with alkali metal alkanoates (III): R5, R12 = H or 1-20C alkyl, 2-20C alkenyl or 2-20C alkynyl gps., in which 1 or more non-adjacent methylene units may be replaced by O; all other R gps. = H, halogen, NO2, CN, 1-4C alkoxy, 1-6C alkyl, carboxy-(1-4C alkyl) or tri(1-4C alkyl)-siloxy.
