PURPOSE: To make it possible to continuously execute a series of stages, to improve a yield, to expand a production capacity and to lessen manpower by subjecting a long-sized base material for liquid crystal display to an orientation treatment, then inspecting orientability, sorting liquid crystal display elements of a fixed type to nondefective articles and defective articles in accordance with the signal outputs of the results of the inspection and housing these elements into a housing machine.
CONSTITUTION: The long-sized base material 10 for ferroelectric liquid crystal display formed by clamping liquid crystals with two sheets of plastic substrates with electrodes is wound around a roll 1. The long-sized base material 10 let off from this roll 1 is sent to an orientation treating section 2 where the long-sized base material is subjected to the orientation treatment. The long-sized base material is sent, after the orientation treatment, to an inspecting section 3 where the material is subjected to the inspection of the orientation. The long-sized base material 10 is thereafter sent to a cutting section 4 where the long-sized base material 10 is cut longitudinally and transversely to the liquid crystal display panels (liquid crystal display element of the fixed type. These liquid crystal display panels are sorted in a sorting section 9 in accordance with the results of the inspection in the inspection section 3 and are divided to the nondective articles and defective articles which are then housed into the housing machine 5.
