Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high purity, yield and selectivity, by separating the titled compound having high purity from a reaction mixture obtained by the iodination of fluorobenzene and hydrocracking the residue to recover the raw material and iodine component in high efficiency. CONSTITUTION:An iodinated fluorobenzene mixture containing p- iodofluorobenzene as a main component (>=80mol%) is produced by reacting fluorobenzene with iodine and/or hydrogen iodine in the presence of an oxidizing agent (preferably nitric acid or nitrogen oxide having oxidizing power) at 10-150 deg.C. The objective p-iodofluorobenzene having desired purity is separated from the mixture by distillation and/or crystallization. The separation residue is made to react with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrocracking catalyst (preferably Pd and/or Ni catalyst) and a base at 10-200 deg.C and decomposed into fluorobenzene and hydroiodide of said base. Both products are recovered and recycled to iodination step.
