PURPOSE: To improve wiping effect and to prevent the deterioration of a strip shape by providing a means for giving a bending effect to a wiper roll, in reference to a wiper device by which liquid attached to the surface of a strip is wiped off by means of upper and lower rolls.

CONSTITUTION: A rolled stock 7 which is fed with a mill oil or a coolant liquid stuck on the surface is held between an upper and a lower wiper roll 8, 9 that are arranged opposite to each other; the upper wiper roll is pressed with a pressing cylinder 6 through an upper frame 1, saddle 3, shaft 12, and backup roll 10, and wiping is performed. In addition, the mill oil or the coolant liquid flowing from both end surfaces of the rolling stock are blown away and removed by an air jet nozzle 20. At this time, the pressing force of the pressing cylinder is adjusted in accordance with the material, thickness and width of the rolling stock; an increased bending is given to the upper frame by means of a bending cylinder 4; this bending force is adjusted; and the pressing force in the width direction is evenly adjusted by means of the upper and the lower wiper rolls.
