Abstract:
A process for the preparation of phenylethanols of the formula
in which R denotes hydrogen, alkyl radicals having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy radicals having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, fluorine radicals, trifluoromethyl radicals and/or trifluoromethoxy radicals, by reacting epoxides of the formula
in which R has the above meaning, in the presence of hydrogen on zeolites and/or phosphates, which are doped with hydrogenation metals, as catalysts. Zeolites of the pentasil type are preferably used.
