Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the title derivative which can produce a tough film excellent in adhesion and weather resistance, and is useful as a silicon acrylic synthetic resin modifier, by opening the ring of epsilon-caprolactone to be polymerized to OH-groups remaining in a cellulose derivative, and then introducing silyl groups thereto. CONSTITUTION:epsilon-Caprolactone (B) is reacted with a cellulose derivative (A) such as nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate butyrate, in a ratio of 1-10 equivalents of the component (B) per equivalent of the OH-groups of the component (A), in the presence of an esterification catalyst such as tetrabutyl zirconate at about 100 deg.C for 5-15hr to open the ring of the component (B) to be polymerized to the OH-groups remaining in the component (A) thereby grafting the polymer chain of the component (B). Then, the resulting compound is reacted with a silyl-group-containing compound (C) of the formula (wherein R1-2 are each a divalent hydrocarbon group, for example, a 1-10C alkyl, aryl and aralkyl; X is a hydrolyzable group; Y is a group reactable with an OH-group; and n is 1-3), so that the silyl groups are introduced to the end of the polymer chain of the component (B) of the above derivative, thereby producing the title compound.
