NEW MATERIAL:A 1,2-benzopyran compound expressed by formulaI(R1, R2, R4 and R5 are H or lower alkyl; R3 is H, halogen, alkyl, haloalkyl, alkoxyl, alkenyl, alkenyloxy, aryl, aryloxy, acyl or NO2; the broken line part is single or double bond; R3 is other than H when the broken line part is single bond) and a salt thereof.
EXAMPLE: (8-Chloro-1,2-benzopyran-6-yl)acetic acid.
USE: An anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic agent having no side effects, e.g. gastrointestinal or blood disorders.
PROCESS: A compound expressed by formula II is reacted with a compound expressed by formula III in an inert solvent in the presence of a base to give a compound expressed by formula IV, which is then subjected to the ring closure in a solvent, e.g. dimethylaniline, under heating to afford the compound expressed by formulaI.
