PURPOSE: To easily produce the subject fiber enabling the setting of curl at a relatively low temperature and useful for curl finishing, etc., by adding a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer resin and an ester-type liquid plasticizer to a vinylidene chloride resin and melt-spinning the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: The raw material mixture of the objective fiber is produced by mixing 57 pts.wt. of vinylidene chloride resin powder containing 20wt.% of vinyl chloride and obtained by aqueous suspension polymerization with 18 pts.wt. of an ester-type liquid plasticizer (e.g. dioctyl phthalate), leaving the mixture for 1 day to effect the absorption of the liquid plasticizer into the resin powder, mixing the product with 25 pts.wt. of resin powder produced by pulverizing a styrene-acrylonitrile copolymer resin (AS resin) for molding to a size passing through a 60 mesh sieve, leaving the mixture for 1 week to transfer the liquid plasticizer to the AS resin and pulverizing the product. The raw material mixture is supplied to a screw extruder, extruded through the tip spinneret, drawn and wound to obtain the objective vinylidene chloride fiber enabling the curl-setting at a low temperature.
