Abstract:
The detector includes a laser (1), a collimator (2), a beam-splitter (3) generating two parallel beams (L1,L2). The beams are directed through a convergent lens in the aircraft wall towards a volume in the surrounding atmosphere containing aerosol particles. The light backscattered by the particles is detected by a photosensor (7). The sensor output is transmitted to a processing module (8) to obtain information relative to the speed of the particles. The module can provide an indication of the particle speed relative to the aircraft.
