Abstract:
Optically active compounds of the formula in which R<1> and R<2>, independently of one another, are alkyl having at least 2 carbon atoms; A<1>, A<2> and A<3>, independently of one another denote unsubstituted or cyano-, halogen- and/or methyl-substituted 1,4-phenylene in which, if desired, one or two CH groups are replaced by nitrogen, or denote unsubstituted or cyano- and/or methyl- substituted trans 1,4-cyclohexylene in which, if desired, one or two CH2 groups are replaced by oxygen; Z<1> and Z<2>, independently of one another are a single covalent bond, -COO-, -OOC-, -CH2CH2-, -OCH2-, -CH2O-, -C IDENTICAL C-, -COS- or -SOC-; m represents the number 0 or 1, n denotes an integer from 0 to 4; X denotes oxygen or a methylene group; and C<*> is a chiral carbon atom, one of the chiral carbon atoms having the R configuration and the other the S configuration, are used in liquid-crystalline mixtures and for compensating the temperature- dependence of the threshold voltage of liquid crystal cells.
