PURPOSE: To provide an emergency lamp lighting device, which does not impose a great burden on a switching circuit and which can prevent generation of a beam of light without increasing the cost to a great extent.
CONSTITUTION: When the commercial AC main E is in non-power failure condition, a switching circuit 3 is changed over to a stabilizer 1, and the power from the AC main E is supplied to a discharge lamp FL via the stabilizer 1 to light it up. When the commercial main E is in power failure condition, the switching circuit 3 is changed over to an emergency lighting circuit 2, and the DC power of a battery B is converted by an inverter circuit 5 into high frequency AC to light up the discharge lamp FL. While the discharge lamp FL is lighted, DC is supplied thereto by a diode D1 and resistor R1 of a striation preventive circuit 6 to prevent generation of an apparent beam of light. Because the switching circuit 3 receives only impression of a voltage of an inverter transformer Tr2 and capacitor C1 and not any doubler voltage, the contact is precluded from shortening of the lifetime.
