Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a connector which is low in loss and enables the connection with high reliability by using a polymer material which shrinks slightly on heating and has a high modulus of elasticity in forming a connector which is formed with a hole for insertion of an optical fiber having an inside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the optical fiber strand.

CONSTITUTION: A connector 21 having a fine hole 22 which is increased in fiber orientation in the longitudinal direction of the connector 21 and has an inside diameter slightly larger than the outside diameter of an optical fiber strand 22, an insertion hole 27 for an optical fiber core 20 and a feed port 28 for an adhesive agent 28 is manufactured by transfer molding of a phenolic resin or the like filled with glass fibers. Since the resin used can shrink slightly on heating to 70W120°C, the holes 22 and 27 shrink like 22', 27' and hold securely the part of the strands 23 when heated after the strands 23 are inserted and the agent 29 is injected therein. The connection is obtd. with high reliability and the easy operation without deterioration in the characteristics of the adhesive agent owing to a change in temp., etc. and without defective disconnection.
