Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the quenching of field winding by providing a heating element in the refrigerant circulating path of superconductive field winding, and strengthening the cooling capacity of the superconducting field winding by heat siphon effect making use of the high centrifugal field inside a rotor when short circuit accident or the like occurs in the power transmission line connected to a generator. CONSTITUTION:Liquid helium (He)3 exists in a refrigerant reservoir 4, and goes out to the space between a shaft 2, to which winding is attached, and a helium vessel 10. In this while, He 3 becomes supercritical pressure helium due to the pressurization by the centrifugal force of a rotor, and it ceases to cause sudden phase change. He 3 enters a slot 5 from outside in the radial direction after flowing circumferentially in the space, and cools superconducting field winding 1, and then passes a cylindrical high conductive metallic pipe 7 low in electric resistance, and returns to the refrigerant reservoir 4. The metallic pipe 7 generates joule loss at transition. This heat warms He 3 and raises the temperature, and makes the helium density relatively small, and great refrigerant circulation force can be gotten by heat siphon effect.
