Abstract:
PURPOSE:To improve the low-temperature stability of a coil end by a method wherein a liquid helium passage from a liquid helium supplying device is attached to the coil end at the axial end of a race track type superconductive winding. CONSTITUTION:A race track type superconductive field coil 1 is provided with an end unit cooling passage 2 at the end of the coil 1. Liquid helium is supplied into the helium vessel 6 of an outer cylinder 5 through a helium supplying tube 3 and the end unit cooling flow passage 2. Upon the rotation of a rotor, the liquid helium, having a low temperature at all times, is supplied to the end of the coil 1 exposed from the level of the liquid helium to keep the end of the coil 1 at a low temperature whereby the quench at the end of the coil 1 may be prevented. On the other hand, the liquid helium, supplied to the cooling flow passage 2 at the end section, generates quick flow by a centrifugal force whereby heat, generated at the end of the coil 1, may be deprived efficiently.
