Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method enabling maleic anhydride to be preserved for a long period in such a state as to be good in its hue with no discoloration, also causing no corrosion of the apparatuses being into contact with maleic anhydride due to e.g. deposition of the additive, thus useful for preserving maleic anhydride.

CONSTITUTION: The method for preventing discoloration of maleic anhydride is characterized by adding (A) 0.005-10wt.ppm of a copper halide and (B) 1-10wt. times, based on the component A, of hydrogen chloride (and (C) 0.005-10wt.ppm of a zinc halide) to (D) maleic anhydride.
