PURPOSE: To enable attaining the mounting of high density by making a tracking signal different from a position where information are recorded and reproduced and providing at least pilot signal parts more than two parts.

CONSTITUTION: Data transmitted from a higher rank position are subjected to shufflings for dispersing recording oders and added with error correcting data and subjected to channel codings in a recording circuit 901 and then transferred into the inside a drum 2 via recording amplifiers to be recorded on the drum 2. Heads 221a, 221b, 222a, and 222b are used for recording heads. In reproducings, outputs of reproducing heads 211a, 211b, 212a and 212b are amplified by pre-amplifiers then restored through reproducing amplifiers and decoders in a reproducing circuit 902 via the rotary transformer in the drum 2. In such a manner, a tracking control is made possible without using a fixed head and a recording and reproducing device is made at a low cost and the size of an ATF part is made small by using small kinds of frequencies and the mounting of high density is attained.
