PURPOSE: To fix the position of a noise band in fast picture search and to reduce the noise band substantially by adding a speed servo circuit and a phase servo circuit to a reel motor.

CONSTITUTION: The speed servo circuit 6 generates a drive signal for the reel motor so that the period of a reel control signal is constant. A detecting circuit 27 detects the coincidence in pulse width between the output signal of a mixing circuit 25 and a speed error signal, and a magnetic tape is run at a maximum speed in this case. Further, a pulse signal divided by a frequency dividing circuit 7 to 30Hz is supplied to an input terminal 31 of the phase serve circuit 9. The output signal of an AND gate 35 is passed through an amplifier 37 and a servo error signal appears at the output terminal 13. A phase adjusting circuit 33 adjusts the position of the noise band in a reproduction screen during the fast picture search.
